Today waste is still often disposed at unmanaged landfills so called "rubbish dumps". There the organic matter content of the waste turns into methane
and nitrous oxide emissions which harm the atmosphere as green house gases.

Nowadays COMP-ANY biologically stabilises the waste matter prior to landfilling. As a consequence only inert material which no longer creates any
green house gas emissions will be disposed at the local landfill.

The Kyoto protocol managed by UNFCCC rewards reductions in green house gas emissions by issuing so-called Certified Emission Reductions ("CER")
to the operator of the waste site. These CERs can be sold to polluters from industrialized countries to offset their excess emissions.

CERs are an important by-product of modern waste management in emerging countries as they allow profitability in the first place.
