More than 180 governments have already ratified the United Nations Framework Convention
on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the so-called Kyoto Protocol. This international treaty aims to
limit greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions like carbon dioxide, methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide
to halt further impairing of our atmosphere, which is vital for a stable climate on earth.
Almost 4 % of all greenhouse gases causing global warming are emitted from waste related
activities at landfills and lagoons. It is the organic matter content in municipal as well as commercial
waste which has the potential for CH4 creation, if not managed properly.
Biological stabilisation of organic waste matter prior to landfill disposal is an ecological imperative
to prevent further CH4 emissions. COMP-ANY's process schemes for the mechanical-biological-
treatment of mixed waste result in a methane reduction greater 90%.
By enhancing waste management practices mainly in emerging countries COMP-ANY contributes
to GHG control while producing Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) respectively Carbon Credits.
Modern waste management has to play an active role in climate protection particularly in emerging
countries - COMP-ANY's main business focus.
